Year 2 2017 - 2018

Mr Axcell

Welcome to Year 2

This term our topic is Animals!

Throughout this topic the children will be learning lots of fun facts about their favourite animals as well as conducting some research into them. They will use books as well as the internet to find out some interesting facts and then use these facts to create fact files and non-fiction books.

As part of our topic we will look at the contrast between animals that live in this country and animals that live in other parts of the world. This will lead us to looking at the different types of habitats and how each animal is suited to it.

We will also look at the different types of animals and their wonderful patterns, colours and camouflage. This will be our inspiration for our art work as we attempt to mimic the patterns of the animals. We will also look at how artwork, particularly in Australia, has been influenced by animals through our investigation of dot art.

Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of this topic is that is also lends itself to many wonderful books, we will spend time reading The Bog Baby, There's a Lion in my Cornfalkes, Zoo and many more wonderful picture books. They will also serve as our inspiration to write a story of our own featuring an animal.

An exciting topic and one which I am sure the children will enjoy.

The children are really enjoying Roald Dahl so we will continue looking at his stories for a while longer. A few of the children have enjoyed reading the books along with me so if you have a copy of the book we are reading please write your child's name in it and send it.

Take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but we will need trainers in every day as we will be fitting in '5 minute fit' sessions as often as possible

What's being said?

Sport at Bollinbrook has really helped my child to flourish. She's grown in confidence and learned so much about teamwork and leadership skills. The school is great at encouraging children to take part and brings out the best in everyone.
