Welcome to Bollinbrook Primary, here at Bollinbrook we pride ourselves on supporting the children and their families during their first steps on their journey into full time education.

Please use the class page for information about what's going on at school, events and activities which are coming up as well as a resource of support by using the files section.

Autumn Term

A new start for all... children taking their first steps into full time education and parents dropping off their treasured children to their new teachers for their first day, week, half term and term.

Be assured that here at Bollinbrook we will care for, nurture, inspire, challenge and treasure your little one as they take their first steps into school life and throughout their time with us. We will wipe away any tears, clean any bumped knees and provide the confidence and reassurance they need when saying their goodbyes.

We will also be teaching your child to be adventurous, take on new challenges, learn new skills, be independent, make new friendships and be part of the wider Bollinbrook community.

In Early Years (Early years foundation stage - EYFS) we do not follow a 'theme' for our learning as we follow the children's interests and plan from their needs. By doing this we engage the children at a deeper level as they are interested in their learning. We will cover some mini-topics that occur throughout the year usually linked with festivals, such as Diwali, Eid, Chinese New year, Harvest, Christmas, Easter in addition to some predictable themes that children at this age show a fascination, curiosity and wonder for, i.e. autumnal changes, weather, superheroes, animals, dinosaurs, growing, people who help us, but we will cover these as and when the children show their interest in them.

During the Autumn term we will spend time encouraging the children to make new friends, learning the names of their peers, playing name games, learning and following the class and school rules. We will share our 'All about me' books to find out more about each other and discover what things we have in common, and what makes us different and special. We will be focusing on Harvest, learning about ourselves and our friends, as well as mini-topics guided by the children’s interests.

On Wednesday 9th October at 3.30pm we will be hosting a Phonics/Reading workshop for parents. This event will explain how we teach reading at Bollinbrook, how you can support your child at home, and provide you with examples of activities you can do at home with your child. There will be a parent workshop while the children are supervised in a separate room, before you join up with your child and partake in a variety of phonics activities.

Towards the end of the first half term we will be taking a trip to the Random Apple Press in Rainow where the children will have the opportunity to sort and wash fresh apples collected from the orchard, use the apple press to squeeze the juice out and make their own bottle apple juice which they will bring home with them. The date for this trip is Thursday 10th October, for the morning. If you are able to help on the day please contact a member of the Early Years team.

We will visit St Michael's and All Angels church in Macclesfield with Year 6 for our Welcome service on Tuesday 15th October, leaving school at approximately 9.15am. You will be invited to walk with us to Church, or meet us there to join in with the service.

On Wednesday 13th November and Thursday 14th November we will be hosting Parents' meeting appointments during the day. You will be able to discuss with your child's teacher how they have settled in, and discuss any concerns you may have or to ask any questions you may have, as well as spend time with your child in the environment exploring their favourite areas and being shown what they enjoy doing. You will be able to book appointments via the school website nearer the time.

It seems a LONG way ahead but the dates for the EYFS and Key Stage 1 Nativity have been set for Tuesday 10th December at 4pm and Wednesday 11th December at 2pm. Nearer to the time you will receive a letter regarding tickets.

You will receive letters about all of the above trips in September.

Weekly events

On Monday's the EYFS children will have a music lesson with Mrs Tennant, the school's specialist music teacher. They will explore rhythm, beat, pitch and much more.

On Wednesdays the EYFS children will have a Fizzy Tots lesson with Sam the sports coach.

Each Thursday we will have PE in the hall in addition to outdoor learning each day in the outdoor classroom. For PE lessons the children will change into their shorts and t-shirts and change their footwear.

Throughout the week the children will join the school for collective worship in the hall. On Friday's we have a celebration assembly where teachers choose a child to receive the Headteacher's award for academic achievement, and a Star of the Week award for exemplary behaviour. This information features on the weekly parent newsletter, so watch that space for your little one's name!

Each day there is a variety of healthy fruit or vegetable snacks in the classroom at the permanent snack table. Your child is welcome to bring a snack in from home but we ask that these are healthy choices and refrain from bringing in biscuits, crisps or chocolate.

We are very much looking forward to the new term and meeting our new children,

Mrs Chadwick, Mrs Wilde and Mrs Burns.
