Welcome to Bollinbrook Primary, here at Bollinbrook we pride ourselves on supporting the children and their families during their first steps on their journey into full time education.

Please use the class page for information about what's going on at school, events and activities which are coming up as well as a resource of support by using the files section.

Teaching and Learning

This half term we will continue to use the children's interests to inform our planning so please continue to share WOW moments or your child's current interests with us either by face-to-face conversations or via Tapestry so that we can ensure the children are motivated to learn.

Following on from our theatre visit to watch Julia Donaldson's 'Stick Man' we will be focusing on this story for the beginning of term as well as a focus on Julia Donaldson's books in general. Julia Donaldson featured on the Queen's New Year's honours list for her services to children's literature so we plan to write letters to her, telling her of our favourite books that she has written, showing her some of the work we have completed and also suggesting new characters for her to write about and suggested story lines. We have a visit to Macclesfield library on Monday 28th January, where the children will be able to join the library service if they have not already, and will be able to borrow a book to read at home.

We will also be learning about the Chinese New Year festival, learning the story behind the names of the zodiac years, traditions around this festival, tasting food and also learning some simple Chinese words.

The second half of the term will see us approaching Easter and the main celebration in the Christian calendar. The weather will be improving and we will also be overhauling our raised beds in the EYFS garden and planting new crops.

We are going to introduce some 'all outside' days where both of the adults will be focusing on activities in the outdoor area and making full use of the environment we have. EYFS will also be accessing the woodland area on the school site for their learning.

Adult helpers

If you would like to volunteer to help with readers, or have a particular interest in gardening, baking or anything else that you would like to support us with in class then please speak to a member of staff. As always, if you have any questions, please just ask.

It’s going to be a very busy term!

Weekly events

On Monday's the EYFS children will have a music lesson with Mrs Tennant, the school's specialist music teacher. They will explore rhythm, beat, pitch and much more.

On Wednesdays the EYFS children will have a Fizzy Tots lesson with Sam the sports coach.

Each Thursday we will have PE in the hall in addition to outdoor learning each day in the outdoor classroom. For PE lessons the children will change into their shorts and t-shirts and change their footwear.

Throughout the week the children will join the school for collective worship in the hall. On Friday's we have a celebration assembly where teachers choose a child to receive the Headteacher's award for academic achievement, and a Star of the Week award for exemplary behaviour. This information features on the weekly parent newsletter, so watch that space for your little one's name!

Each day there is a variety of healthy fruit or vegetable snacks in the classroom at the permanent snack table. Your child is welcome to bring a snack in from home but we ask that these are healthy choices and refrain from bringing in biscuits, crisps or chocolate.
